Sundays are the days that I get to dedicate more than just a few minutes at a time to self-care. Sundays are the days that I get to take a shower with the bathroom door closed and (almost always) without a very attached toddler knocking on the door to show me her newest discovery.
Don’t get me wrong, I love seeing what she discovers or builds and creates. But I don’t necessarily love it during my shower time, especially when the water is hot and steamy (a rare occurance when you’re trying to preserve pink hair and needing to wash it in cold water).
So, on Sundays my husband has the day off and somewhere around mid-morning I begin to pamper myself. Now, I still don’t have hours on end, so my pampering routine is still pretty short and something you could do on a regular day. For me, the main point of this pampering is that I get to do it alone! (any other moms relate?)
So, here is my Sunday routine!
1 // Remi | Moisturizing & Restorative Hair Treatment
Vanity Planet $ 13.99
$30.00 (don’t forget to use the code SHIELDSISTERS for an additional 10% off!)
About 30 to 45 minutes before I decide I have time to shower, I apply the Remi hair treatment to my hair. It is AH-MAZING. Seriously, I’ve used just coconut oil before, but this is so much better!
What I love the most about Vanity Planet’s Remi is that it is made with natural ingredients that restore my hair to the softest it has ever been. I keep making everyone feel how soft my hair is.
The tube comes in a pouch that has no room for air to steal that last bit of it (I’m looking at you plastic shampoo and conditioner bottles that refuse to give me the last bit of product.) Moreover, it only takes one or two tablespoons per application, meaning I can get at least 4 or 5 applications out of it.
So, what are these amazing natural ingredients I’m raving about?
Sweet almond oil: Super loaded with nutrients like vitamins A, D, E, and several of the B vitamins, providing hydration, strengthening your hair, helping it to grow and clearing up dandruff.
Argan oil: Rich in hair-nourishing nutrients, argan oil prevents excessive oil secretion. I know it sounds funny that oil could prevent excessive oil secretion, but restoring natural oils in your body actually makes your hair less greasy.
Castor oil: Stimulates new hair growth and repairs existing hair.
Coconut oil: Penetrates your strands of hair to prevent further damage.
From the site, key benefits include:
- Enriched oils and vitamins revitalize dull, damaged tresses
- Hydrates dry, damaged hair
- Repairs and prevents split ends
- Makes for shinier, glossier hair
- May encourage hair growth and prevent hair loss
Application is easy, as well. Open the pouch, squeeze one to two tablespoons into your hands. Massage into scalp and work your way to your tips. Let sit for 30 to 45 minutes and shampoo and condition as usual.
2 // Groove | Scalp Massaging Shampoo Brush
Vanity Planet $ 40.00 (don’t forget to use the code SHIELDSISTERS for 10% off!)
When I finally escape into the bathroom, close and lock the door and turn on the hot shower, I grab my Groove, scalp massaging brush. The Groove is a water-resistant handheld scalp massaging brush that has silicone spikes that massage your shampoo or conditioner into your hair, achieving a deeper clean and invigorating your scalp.
The Groove is a water-resistant handheld scalp massaging brush that has silicone spikes that massage your shampoo or conditioner into your hair, achieving a deeper clean and invigorating your scalp.
Normally, my hair tangles in an instant, so I was worried that this would tangle my hair at the root. The silicone spikes do not work like a normal brush, that can separate the different pieces of each individual hair, causing frizz and tangles. The silicone actually, bends easily and after using it and letting my hair air dry (like I normally do) I had absolutely no tangles or frizz.
The vibration from it is SO relaxing, too. Of course, the vibration is also beneficial in stimulating your roots for hair growth, but if I could have a scalp massage every time I shower I would be happy. With the Groove, I totally can!
From the site key benefits include:
- Helps promote hair growth and scalp health
- Lifts away dead skin cells and oil buildup on the scalp
- Pairs well with your favorite shampoo and conditioner
- Increases blood flow to the scalp
- Thoroughly cleans braids, weaves, and extensions
- Vibrations offer a relaxing massage
Taking time for myself is important to me, but as a busy mom and entrepreneur, I don’t always get to find a solid block of time for self-care. With Vanity Planet’s Remi and Groove, I can easily add self-care into my day. Not only am I happier but my hair is gorgeous and requires less time to style.
3 // Coffee Body Scrub
After my hair is given all the love, I move onto taking care of m skin with my coffee body scrub. This body scrub is amazing and can be used every day. In fact, I use it every time I shower, and sometimes I hop in at night for a quick scrub because the coffee wakes me up. ALL things coffee, right?
- 1 cup ground coffee
- ½ cup brown sugar
- ¾ cup doTERRA Fractionated Coconut Oil
- ¼ cup vitamin E oil
Sometimes I add in other oils like peppermint!
- Combine ingredients in a small bowl.
- Apply on wet skin and gently rub in circles to help remove dry skin.
- Store in airtight container.
4 // Water-activated lotion
The last step in my pampering is to use a water-activated lotion. I’m not sure if I love to do this because of the water-activated part of it or if it’s just because the fact that I apply it in the shower means I actually remember to put on lotion regularly. Have you tried a water-activated lotion?
What do you include in your self-care routine?
